I don't think she'll mind if I share a little of the email she sent me recently concerning the release of her novel:
"It’s coming out in December when everyone is busy mailing Christmas cards and spending time with friends and family. And I decided I’d much rather add to the joy of the season than add to the stress. So I’m writing to ask if you’d be interested in participating in “Quinn’s Cookie Exchange,” named after the main character of CHASTE, a teenage boy who knows how to cook."
Um, yes! What a brilliant, creative, low-key but fun way to spread the word about your novel.
So, first, here's the blurb for Chaste:
When he steps into his physics class on the first day of senior year, Quinn Walker is too exhausted from staying up all night with his three-month-old nephew to deal with moral dilemmas. As a devout Mormon who has vowed to wait until marriage for sex, the last thing he needs is a very hot and very sexy Katarina Jackson as his physics partner. Regrettably, he has no choice.
Kat feels invisible in her mansion of a home six months after losing her older brother in a fatal car crash and will do anything to get her parents’ attention. Since her pastor father has no love for Quinn’s “fake” religion and her ex-boyfriend refuses to leave her alone, she makes an impulsive bet with her friends to seduce her holier-than-thou lab partner by Christmas.
And now here are the cookies:
I brought Double Delicious Cookie Bars for the exchange. I only make these at Christmas, even though they are probably the easiest thing in the world to make. If you're rushed for time and need oh-my-god-these-are-so-good cookies, try these.
You'll need:
1/2 cup margarine or butter
1 1/2 cups graham cracker crumbs
1 (14 ounce) can sweetened condensed milk (NOT evaporated milk)
1 (12 ounce) package semi-sweet chocolate chips
1 cup peanut butter or white chocolate chips
Preheat oven to 350 degrees (325 for glass dish). In 13x9 inch baking pan, melt margarine in oven. Sprinkle crumbs evenly over the margarine. Pour sweetened condensed milk evenly over over the crumbs. Top with the chips (you can also add coconut or walnuts if you want) and press down firmly. Bake 25 to 30 minutes or until lightly browned. Cool before cutting into bars. Insert into mouth. :)
Got a favorite cookie at the holidays? Or a coveted book you're hoping will be under the tree? Wowzer, what do you think of Katarina's plans for a little holiday seduction?

I'll be right over for the cookies!
ReplyDeleteAnd featured Angela's new book today as well. She is really amazing.
So excited for Angela! Truly one of the star blogger-writers out there. And those cookies sound amazing! I'm not even a 'sweets' kind of guy, either.
ReplyDeletea Mormon hero in the book? Now that's something new to me :)
ReplyDeleteSpeaking of new, I don't have half of the ingredients needed for your cookies, Luanne, so you will just have to send me some already baked ones :)
I will be guest hosting at a friend's blog with my Christmas recipes later this month and you will of course visit and leave comments of admiration there :PPP
Alex - Angela has got game, no lie.
ReplyDeleteE.J. - Oh, you're a sweet enough guy. :P
Dezzy - Penguins will be delivering your cookies any moment. And, you know, I'm half tempted to visit Serbia just for your cooking. :))
Kat and Quinn are great names for characters, and it sounds like Quinn is in for some physics lessons on electricity and kinetics.
ReplyDeleteAs for the cookies, those look awesome, but of course brownies are my favorite. :p
I just wrote that recipe down. I couldn't resist. Thank you and congrats to Angela!
ReplyDeleteMC - LOL. I'm a little worried for Quinn as a force is about to change his motion. And, uh, your brownies have to go through special customs.
ReplyDeletemshatch - Oh, they are sinful. I almost titled this post "Temptation." :P
These cookies look amazing! My mouth is watering.
ReplyDeleteCongratulations to Angela!!
ReplyDeleteAnd the Double Delicious Cookie Bars sound like something I could possibly in theory make. And when I screw them up, it'll make a hilarious blog post. Thanks for sharing...
What a fun idea! I'm dying for some of these cookies now. Congratulations to Angela, Chaste sounds excellent.
ReplyDeleteAngela - Your writing is amazing. Thanks for coming up with such a great idea for promoting your novel. Best of luck with it!!
ReplyDeleteM.J. - Those are sort of fool-proof cookies. I'm the proof, believe me. :P
Julie - Yeah, I love it when people get creative with their book promotion. And, hey, who doesn't like cookies!?!
The cookies look fabulous and so does Angela's book.
ReplyDeleteKaren
Congrats to Angela! And thanks for the recipe! Is it too early for chocolate?...
ReplyDeleteKaren - Two tasty treats today. Only one is low in calories, though. :)
ReplyDeleteEmily - I believe writers are exempt from any restrictions on chocolate. It impedes the creative process to go without. :P
I like the premise of the book. I kind of wonder why "fake" is in quotation marks though. That kinda sounds like authorial voice intruding on the narrative.
ReplyDeleteI think those cookies could seduce anyone. Yummy!
ReplyDeleteI'm reaching into my fridge now for the cookies my daughter made (Krispers - melted butterscotch, melted peanut butter, rice krispies) YUM!!
ReplyDeleteMy book for under the tree: Nelson DeMille's Panther, pretty please Santa Baby!
Best of luck to Angela on her book =)
Both the book and the cookies sound excellent! Thanks for sharing :)
ReplyDeleteThe cookies look awesome! I'd better break out the P90X though.
ReplyDeleteMichael - There's definitely some tension built into that premise.
ReplyDeleteCarol - It's a very Naughty and Nice post, yes?
Elsie - Gah! I know, this is such a season of temptation! I just got back from a workout though, so I feel a little less guilty. Only a little. :P
J. A. - Two of my favorite things together. :)
Stephen - Ha! I had to look up P90X. Yeah, it's NOT the time of year to start slacking off on the work outs. :D
Wait... I got lost in the whole teenage boy and cooking thing. Cook what? Mac 'n' cheese? Tuna sandwiches? I've never heard of this thing. I'm gonna need to see one to believe it.
ReplyDeleteNot sure which sounds more delicious... that book, or those cookies. (And I think "Temptation" would have been a PERFECT title!)
ReplyDeleteI have a recipe like that, but it calls for sliced almonds, brown sugar topping (a mock almond roca) on top of graham crackers. Kind of s'mores gone modern, when it melts. Works with pecans too. A great shortcut and mails well.
ReplyDeleteGood luck with Chaste, Angela. Adding cookie recipes to the mix is another way to catch interest.
Yummy cookies! Poor Quinn. That's tough when something that has deep meaning to you becomes the fodder for careless betting.
ReplyDeleteAndrew - Well, yes, I believe some young humans of the male persuasion do in fact cook. My son actually learned how to make fried chicken at school. And I think he made a pie once. I was very impressed. :)
ReplyDeleteSusan - I know! I chickened out on the post title. :(
D. G. - Ooh, that sounds good too. Ack! I'm going to have to double up on my work outs this month.
Donna - It's a great set up for YA book, isn't it? And to flip it so that it's the guy who wants to stay a virgin. Great conflict there.
I'm glad there was still some hot chocolate left in my mug while reading that... I've seen Angela's name around. Congrats to her!
ReplyDeleteI made brownie pops last week for Angela brown. I'm going to try Gingerbread pops for xmas...
Angela's story sounds great - it's definitely going on my to-read list.
ReplyDeleteMmm, that recipe sounds amazing!
ReplyDeleteOh my those cookies look yum.
ReplyDeleteAnd the book sounds like a great read! Yay to Angela!!
Kind of a neat way to promote a book at Christmas. And congrats to you as well! I'll have a shout out on Wednesday for you. :D
DeleteM Pax - Mmmm...cocoa and cookies. I know how Santa fills his suit out by Dec. 25th. :)
ReplyDeleteTonja - Kind of a twist on the "bet I can get her into bed" theme. Good moral dilemma for the protag.
Nicole - I made some this weekend for my son's Robotics club party and, yeah, one was enough for me because they are so rich and chocolaty. :)
I always make marshmallow fudge and peanut butter chocolate coconut haystacks, and then give them away as quickly as possible.
ReplyDeleteCongrats to Angela!
Yay, Angela's book sounds great. This is the second blog I've seen her book on. :)
ReplyDeleteRubye Jack - Ooh, peanut butter chocolate coconut haystacks. You can give some of those away in this direction. :)
ReplyDeleteCiara - Yay! I think the cookie exchange/ book promo will go on through December. :)
I make the same type of cookies, but add coconut, butterscotch chips, and chopped walnuts. They're so easy and so terribly yummy!
ReplyDeleteWow! That sounds saucy! I love it. I'm all about the sugary treats too. Nancy Thompson gave me a recipe for chocolate cookies that my husband refers to as "chocolate crack". He and my daughter devour them within a day of me baking them!
ReplyDeleteStephanie - oh, yes, they're good like that too. I usually end up making a couple of versions. Mmmm.
ReplyDeleteLisa - Lol -- chocolate crack is about right. So addictive. :)
That's really interesting that the male is the one who is choosing to remain chaste. These days one would assume it would be the other way around. It sounds like a great read :)
ReplyDeleteAs for the cookie...Chocolate Oatmeal No Bake Cookies.
Oh. My. God. Can't handle it :D
I'm seeing Angela's book everywhere. That's great. Thanks for the awesome cookie recipe. I'm always in search of a new one (that's easy to make too)!
ReplyDeleteSamantha - Yeah, I like the twist on that too. I remember agent Sara Megibow saying once that she wished she saw a few more stories like that with a male virgin as the protag.
ReplyDeleteSouthpaw - Well, YOU are the queen of cookies. I even bought your cookie book and plan to use it in the coming weeks. :))
:) One can never have too many cookies.
DeleteNever! Well, until the zipper doesn't go up on the jeans anymore, but we'll worry about that after the holidays. :P
DeleteCookies? You don't need to sat that twice:)
ReplyDeleteCongrats to Angela! Mmm, those cookie bars look so good. Yummy!
ReplyDeleteMark - I wish we had Wonka Vision. We could zap samples out to everyone. :)
ReplyDeleteCherie - Hiya! And they are delish! Mostly because they're basically sugar, fat, and more sugar. Mmmm.
Yum. In real life I have a cookie exchange coming up. Don't be surprised if I show up with these babies!
ReplyDeleteOMG, those cookie bars look good. Angela's book looks wonderful. I'll have to check it out.
ReplyDeleteLibby - Easy, easy to make. The hard part is making them last until your exchange. :P
ReplyDeleteKari Marie - Two things we love: books and cookies. This may be the marketing strategy of the future. :)
Congrats on your book Angela! The cookie exchange is a wonderful idea. Your bars look delicious L.G.!
ReplyDeleteJulie
Well, thank you. And, yeah, congrats to Angela. She's an amazing writer.
